Saturday 29th July 2006 Ashton Athletic 0 Howe Bridge Mills 2 Hindsford Trophy Group B Round 3

Ashton slipped to a first defeat in this year's Hindsford cup, with a lacklustre performance aginst Howe Bridge.

The first half was stalemate as neither team seemed capable of breaking the deadlock However Howe Bridge did score, capitalising on the linesman's failure to spot a blatant off side, which allowed the striker advance and finish well past the Ashton keeper Hickson.

A well worked goal then put the visitors two up, and their dogged defence limited Ashton to long range efforts and half chances.

Fortunately Ashton will get a second bite at the cherry as the team had already qualified for the semi final, and will now play Irlam MS from the Manchester Premier Division on Tuesday 1st August 2006 at their Silver Street ground, vying for a place in the final against Wigan Robin Park or Howe Bridge who meet in the other semi final.

MoM for Ashton was Andy Day whse organisation and general play held things together at the back for the relatively young Ashton side.
