Back to back wins for Ashton but not without a struggle

MAINE ROAD FC 0 ASHTON ATHLETIC FC 3
Ashton posted back to back wins against Maine Road FC but not without a struggle as a first half disjointed performance and missed opportunities by the home side during that first 45 minutes let Ashton off the hook.
The only bright spot of a scrappy first half for Ashton came when Lee Edmunds turned sharply in the box and gave Ashton the lead in the 30th minute.
The second half was a much brighter performance as early strikes from Dave Sherlock after 53 minutes and Kev Kynaston 5 minutes later settled things down and allowed Ashton to dominate the rest of the match.
In the end an excellent 3 points away from home but it could have been much different had the Maine Road strikers taken advantage of sloppy play throughout the Ashton ranks in the first half.
The reserves also won by the same scoreline in the local Derby match against Wigan Robin Park as goals from Mike Rhead(2) and Ben Cartwright secured the points.
