The setback did little to deter Ashton, who continued to battle fiercely, ensuring Nelson didn’t have it all their own way as the first half ended 2-1.

A Hard-Fought Second Half
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Ashton pushing for an equaliser and showing plenty of attacking intent. At times, the league leaders looked rattled, as the hosts matched them stride for stride.
